About
Born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, I worked as a journalist, producer, and editor for nearly two decades before moving to Australia in 2017.
My work sits at the intersection of oral history, documentary filmmaking, and creative non-fiction. Through interviews, archival research, and documentary storytelling, I explore political memory, migration, social movements, and histories that are often overlooked in official accounts.
I am currently completing a Doctor of Creative Arts at Western Sydney University. My doctoral project draws on approximately forty oral history interviews to recover the experiences of political dissidents, student activists, labour organisers, journalists, and democratic movements in Pakistan from 1947 to the early 1980s.
Current Research
Recovering Histories of Political Dissidents in Pakistan (1947–Early 1980s)
My current doctoral project explores the experiences of political dissidents, student activists, labour organisers, journalists, and democratic movements in Pakistan from independence in 1947 to the early 1980s. Drawing on approximately forty oral history interviews conducted across Pakistan and the diaspora, the project documents personal memories and lived experiences that are often absent from official accounts of the nation's history.
Combining oral history, archival research, and documentary prose, the project examines how individuals remember political struggle, state repression, imprisonment, exile, activism, and social change. It seeks to preserve voices that have been marginalised, overlooked, or excluded from mainstream historical narratives, while exploring the relationship between memory, testimony, and history.
